Gothic and Risen developer Piranha Bytes has today released ELEX 2, the follow-up to the 2017 sci-fi RPG in which you play as jetpack-sporting hero, Jax. Taking you to the vibrant open world of Magalan, ELEX 2 presents you with five major factions to side with, each with their own story arc.

While exploring, you'll encounter fantastical creatures, uncover hidden secrets, using Jax's improved jetpack to get around more efficiently. During the game's narrative, you'll search for Jax's son, Dex, as a new threat emerges from the sky, putting all life on Magalan in danger.

NPCs you interact with will remember your actions, leave and join groups based on your behaviour, or get themselves killed, altering the course of the story. ELEX 2 also features an improved control system, fluid combat, and an array of decisions to make during its storyline.

ELEX 2 is out now for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC. Check out the launch trailer below.

  • Not bad so far! They've added difficulty choices so the brutal difficulty curve can be whatever you want it to be. Finished the first faction last night and pleasantly surprised with the increase polish over the first game.

Achievement list will probably be about the same. You can only join one faction, so you'll need to save and reload for those. I'm not sure how the "don't join a faction" one works yet, and the skill tree achievements will likely require not using skill points for many level ups in a row like last time too.
  • Oh, and the addition of the jetpack is fantastic. It makes moving around the world so easy, and you can jump off any height and then just engage it right before the ground so you don't splat. Very fun.
