Capcom has announced that the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, as well as Resident Evil 7 biohazard, are all set to hit current-gen consoles later this year. All three RE Engine titles will be coming to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 with various enhancements, including an increased frame rate and ray tracing.

Anyone who currently owns the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of any of the three games receiving the new-gen treatment, will also be able to download the Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5 upgrade for free, within the same console family, of course. A free upgrade patch will also roll out for PC owners.

A specific date for the arrival of the enhanced versions of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 7 biohazard on new-gen consoles and PC has yet to be announced, but all three games will be landing on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC sometime in 2022.

  • The Xbox Series S/X are backwards compatible. These games already came to these console when the consoles launched. Article means to say that these are enhanced versions of Last gen games.

So they are being enhanced for Xbox Series X, not coming to it like it's a damn remaster of a 4 year old game.
  • @Blade Runner 07 - playing Xbox One games on Xbox Series X|S is playing via backwards compatibility, but it doesn't mean those games came to Xbox Series X|S. If I played a Game Boy Advance game on my Nintendo DS, that doesn't mean the game came to DS, it was just playable on it.

What's happened here is that Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 7 are all getting native versions built for the Xbox Series X|S. Xbox's Smart Delivery has muddled the terminology slightly, but that doesn't change that these games are now coming to Xbox Series X|S natively. They came to Xbox One a few years ago, those versions were backwards compatible on Series X|S, and now the games are coming to Xbox Series X|S.
  • I'll gladly replay 2 and 3 but not 7 as I didn't like that one
  • @scardro me too. i played 7 & 8 on my test account and just couldnt get into them.

I might be getting my hopes up but i hope 3 gets a seperate stack.
  • @snake42069 not for everyone I suppose! I still think 7 is the scariest of the bunch.
  • I've fine with more RE no matter how it turns up!
  • This news has me ecstatic!!
  • @snake42069 it's not that I disliked them it's more that I thought 7 was just weak and to me there was no replay value or incentive to even beat it a few times while 2 and 3 heck even 8 had too many reasons to do multiple runs
  • Good excuse to replay RE2 for me
  • I didn't immediately take to 7. I finished my playthrough and instead of starting another run, I moved on. I came back much later and rather enjoyed it, doing another 1.5 runs. I liked the Sherriff DLC, too!
  • I will definitely put some time into these again for the upgrades. In fact I never finished my Claire run in RE2. I wonder if the PS5 version of 7 will still work in VR or if it will just run the PS4 version.
  • @HDresden it’ll probably require VR2, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see an update to 8 for VR2 too
  • I wonder if our saves will migrate or if we will have to start over?
