Merge Games has announced it'll be serving as publisher for SunnySide, a narrative-driven open world farming and life sim from developer RainyGames, inspired by JRPG titles with “deep social sim aspects”.

“Players will be challenged to bridge the gap between traditional practices and modern influences as they find harmony in the Japanese countryside,” the announcement press release reads. “As they cultivate new experiences and build a thriving homestead, they must also let their relationships with locals blossom.”

Building a life for yourself, while growing crops, caring for livestock, and forming bonds with the locals, SunnySide will also have you modernising your farming endeavours, so that you can automate production using technology. You'll be able to explore cave systems and engage in combat to unlock new areas, and also pursue romance options, hang out with friends, or tackle Harmony Quests.

SunnySide will be coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC sometime in 2022. Check out some gameplay in the trailer below.

  • I feel like western devs just dont really get how japanese games work.
the art style is pretty mediocre it more looks like fortnite + with an anime skin over it.
