Having worked on Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and The Division as Managing Director at Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment, David Polfeldt has confirmed that he will no longer be with the studio, following a six month sabbatical.
Originally, Polfeldt's plan had been to return to work at Massive, but that will no longer be the case, once he's finished his six-month notice period. He'll then be going “wherever the wind takes me,” he said. It appears that the increased size of the studio (ironic, given its name) informed his decision to leave for good.
“I think my philosophy and my skills work well for a certain kind of group of a certain kind of size,” Polfeldt told Hit Points (via VGC). “I don’t think I’m the right manager for what the studio has become. I’m perfectly at peace with it."
Polfeldt's departure might come as a bit of a blow for Massive Entertainment, what with support for The Division 2 an ongoing concern, development on Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora in full swing ahead of its planned launch this year, and a new Star Wars game in the pipeline.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is due to launch in 2022 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, although there's been no update on the game since last year.
