We've still yet to see any proper gameplay from Starfield, but Bethesda has released a new developer diary, with Todd Howard and co revealing more about the upcoming RPG.

In this second developer diary, Game Director Todd Howard, Design Director Emil Pagliarulo, Lead Quest Designer Will Shen, and Lead Artist Istvan Pely sit downto talk about player choice and immersion in Starfield, and there's plenty of insights to be gleaned. For one, it appears that character backgrounds and traits will be part of the character creation at the beginning of the game, with the player's chosen faction changing Starfield's beginning.

One cool detail that Howard revealed was relating to the game's space pirates, the Crimson Fleet. Rather than serving only as a hostile force, the player can join the pirate crew. However, if a player wants to roleplay as a good or lawful character, they can still join the pirates, but choose to infiltrate them as an undercover agent for law enforcement instead.

We also got just the tiniest snippet of gameplay, showing a robot companion referring to the player as captain. Pely describes how your companions will react to your actions, while Howard says the team lent into making sure players understand how those companion characters feel about the player.

You can check out the full developer diary in the video down below. Starfield is due to launch on Xbox Series X|S and PC on 11th November 2022. You can watch the last developer diary here.
