Hogwarts Legacy got over fourteen minutes of brand new gameplay in yesterday's State of Play presentation, showing off combat, exploration, and studies in a late-1800s Hogwarts.
Across the narrated gameplay walkthrough, get to see the customisable player character take part in duels, whipping spells at other wizards, and exploring not just Hogwarts itself, but the grounds and world outside, in what is being described as an open world action-RPG. In Hogwarts Legacy, you play as a new student who, rather unusually, is joining Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as a fifth-year. They also seem to have a connection to an ancient type of magic, one that is no longer understood, which draws the attention of an alliance between dark wizards and goblins.
Throughout the game, you'll be able to pick which spells, abilities, and potions you use, in order to define your combat style, and you'll also have to continue your wizarding studies, learning potions, herbology, charms, and more. You'll make new friends, who can join you as companions, and unravel a mystery along the way, defining your Hogwarts legacy. Ah, see what they did there?
“Your story deserves to be as thrilling as other wizarding heroes,” says game director Alan Tew. “We start you as a late-fifth year so you needn’t hold back on the kinds of adventures (and themes) you might want to explore. We place you in the 1800s to ensure your legend is never overshadowed by any other hero. And we invent a new dark mystery so your conflict never feels like a retread of something you’ve seen before. With your continued support, we hope to explore even more in the future!”
Hogwarts Legacy is coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC in Holiday 2022. You can check out the full presentation down below.
