Xbox Will No Longer Be Removing Ability to Share Captured Game Screenshots and Videos to Twitter

Microsoft had planned to remove the ability to share captured game screenshots and videos to Twitter, directly from your Xbox console, but now, that will no longer be the case. The feature had been removed from an Xbox Insider update rolled out earlier this month, prompting users to upload clips via their phones, then share them to Twitter.

The ability to share screens and footage directly to Twitter was seemingly set to be removed due to low usage (as VGC reports), but Microsoft has decided to alter its plans, based on none-too-favourable feedback from users.

“Thanks for your feedback on the Twitter share feature change we flighted in [build] 2204 – that change is being reverted to the previous behaviour from today in this new build,” Brad Rossetti, Program Lead for the Xbox Insider app tweeted yesterday.

Meanwhile, Jason Ronald, Director of Program Management for Xbox, noted in November 2021 that improving the quality of footage shared via Xbox Series X|S video capture is something that's also a high priority.

“I will definitely say that Game DVR is the one area – the capture and share experience – that I wish we were able to make more progress [on] this year than we were able to. It is definitely a priority for us,” he remarked.

“We definitely hear the feedback. We have made some changes and we have made some improvements to the reliability and the quality of the captures but we know we still have work to do here," Ronald added. “So that is definitely a priority for us and something that we’re going to continue to iterate on.”

Last month, the ability to stream directly to Twitch was also rolled out on Xbox, while an update rolled out earlier this month included new features like Quick Resume Pinning and an option to remap the Share Button on the Xbox Wireless Controller. Of course, further Xbox updates are in the pipeline.

  • Improve the save space for clips and screenshots. Im always at 99% full, Even after i clear space.

Hell ill even pay £5 a month for extra couple of gigs. Or let us save directly to our hard drive.. Why is this not a possibility?

When you are SS and clipping so much, Especially games like elden, Forza and far cry. Its gets full too quickly.
  • Twitter is cancer. Why anyone would voluntarily be on that platform is mind boggling to me.
  • Social media in general sucks. It's like a video game where the main gameplay loop is reliant on your investment in sharing other people's happy horseshit or the bullshit opinions of degenerates with agendas that in no way include your happiness. I keep off of it all and do all my communication via call, text, and silly comments at the bottom of articles like this.
  • I use Twitter as a news feed, I follow sources I trust and am up to date when anything happens pretty much as it happens thanks to twitter notifications on my phone.

So it's mindboggling to you that someone would want a feed for their news?

I also use it to connect with celebrities I respect. I've made comments about shows and movies I like that people who worked on those thigns have been able to like and interact with. I've been able to thank the creators I idolize, and I've even been followed by the likes of John Cena and Don Cheadle.

I also use twitter to push my writing and entertainment blog (99geek.ca), it's where most of my audience comes from. I'd have no ability to advertise without Twitter or get my voice out to anyone without twitter.

It boggles my mind that people dont use Twitter. Yeah there are horrible people on twitter, but there are horrible people everywhere and unlike most things, Twitter I can make them disappear with a push of the block button.
  • Gotcha by the balls I guess.
  • @Bladerunner, Agreed about your first comment. All forms of social media is a bit trash in my opinion. And for those that use it, you do you. I just think it's brought out in full force the idiots of humanity, starved for attention, trying to get it by self-aggrandizing or self loathing. And it's also developed a level of polarization between people that's practically become so far beyond saving because people live in their echo chamber, finding everything in it to be absolute.

I don't use any forms of social media. Although, I used to co-host a board gaming podcast and I had to run a twitter account for it. But once the podcast went defunct after a few years, I stopped using the account, and only pop on as a lurker from time to time to see what some board gaming friends have been up to that I don't see regularly.
  • @Wingcommander Oh. Good for you. You got followed by celebrities. Does that really mean anything? Honestly? Stop idolizing these hypocrites.
