Following yesterday's announcement of Kingdom Hearts IV, Square Enix has revealed that the full game will be built with Unreal Engine 5, despite the first look at the game running in real-time using Unreal Engine 4. A new more realistic visual style was one of the takeaways from the debut trailer, as well as the return of Sora, Donald, and Goofy.

“The full game will be made with Unreal Engine 5, and the quality of lighting and details will be several levels higher,” claims a report from Japanese games mag, Famitsu (as spied by VGC). The publication also states that Square Enix's Osaka studio is spearheading development on KH4, having developed Kingdom Hearts III. Yasushi Yasue is said to be leading development as co-director.

The first gameplay for Kingdom Hearts IV showcased Sora wielding his Keyblade against a colossal Heartless on the streets of the Tokyo-esque Quadratum. Meanwhile, fans have been dissecting the KH4 trailer, leading to a theory that Star Wars' forest moon of Endor could feature. A momentary glimpse of an AT-ST foot in a forest setting at the beginning of the trailer points to what could be a Star Wars crossover in the game. Of course, nothing has been confirmed as yet.
