“Our goal with Hell is Us is to bring back true adventure and exploration,” said Jacques-Belletête. “There's no need for a detailed quest log or precise waypoint on the map: we want players to feel the thrill of adventure, guided by their feelings and instincts.”
NACON's description of HELL is US being a game in a “new genre” might be a bit bold, but the setting certainly sounds interesting. Players will roam a semi-open world, learning more about the past of a country ravaged by civil war, all the while fighting off supernatural creatures known as the Calamity. You can see a glimpse of the world of the game, including these bizarre creatures, in the new teaser trailer down below.
HELL is US is coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC in 2023.
I haven't bought Elden Ring yet, but isn't that what Elden Ring does? No hand holding? You have to explore and discover things on your own? Odd for Nacon to claim they are pioneering this idea/concept, especially when this was a design style from the days of old anyway.
Far Cry 6 is doing that too #1 depending on settings chosen so definitely not all that new or back to the old anymore. I suppose this game and how it works may be something fresh as a while though. Definitely sounds interesting!
@TheLastAntidote - Yup, that's pretty much ER in a nutshell. You can explore the opening area in ER for DAYS before moving on and you still won't see everything. The first sale you see, dip your toes in. I'd be surprised if you don't fall for it.

French publisher NACON has announced HELL is US, a new action adventure game that is focused on “true adventure and exploration”.
Developed by Rogue Factor, the studio behind games such as Mordheim: City of the Damned and Necromunda: Underhive Wars, this game promises to be its “most amibitious project to date”. Jonathan Jacques-Belletête, a former developer on Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, is taking on the role of creative director for HELL is US.
“Our goal with Hell is Us is to bring back true adventure and exploration,” said Jacques-Belletête. “There's no need for a detailed quest log or precise waypoint on the map: we want players to feel the thrill of adventure, guided by their feelings and instincts.”
