Halo: The Master Chief Collection has received a free update, adding in new content to Halo 3: ODST, as well as general improvements across the entire collection.
The big new addition in this update is the Flood Firefight mode now available in Halo 3: ODST. In general, changes have been made to Firefight in ODST across the board, with networking improvements, AI fixes, and the addition of the Energy Sword and Sentinel Beam. Of course, the Flood is the headline act here, and the alien swarm has received plenty of updates since their appearance in Halo 3.
The Flood are now accompanied by a dense fog, giving each Firefight mission a spooky ambience, and they can now occupy vehicles for the first time since Halo 2. Three new Flood Combat Forms are also being added - the infected civilian, the infected ODST, and the infected Elite Major. They can even infect ODSTs and resurrect them, meaning you could find yourself fighting your former allies.
In order to take on the Flood, players will have some additional help, such as weapon racks with Assault Rifles and Battle Rifles, and occasional Flamethrowers on certain maps.
Halo 3: ODST and Halo 3 are also getting campaign crossplay, allowing players to jump into a co-op campaign across PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Across the Master Chief Collection, the update also brings UI improvements, additional Forge and Mod tools, new and returning Skulls, and more. You can read the full update notes on the Halo Waypoint website here.
