Atari has announced its latest Recharged title, following modernised versions of Asteroids, Black Widow, Breakout, and Centipede. This one is Gravitar: Recharged, an upcoming revamp of the 1982 “hidden gem”, which combines the rotate, thrust, and fire gameplay of Asteroids and Space Duel, with the gravity mechanics of Lunar Lander.
Playing as a lone pilot, Gravitar: Recharged will have you visiting various solar systems with their own distinct missions and challenges, each offering different levels of gravity to contend with. Gravitar: Recharged will retain the notoriously challenging gameplay of the original, while introducing a cult classic to a new audience.
Rather than vector graphics, the new version will offer a “more painterly” art style, as well as an atmospheric score by award-winning composer Megan McDuffee. Twenty-four missions await, alongside power-ups aplenty, and tethered co-op play, when Gravitar: Recharged launches for Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, PC, and Atari VCS in May 2022.
