Developer The Coalition has announced that Gears 5's Map Builder is being removed, although any achievements associated with it will be unlocked for all players, and anyone who has already unlocked them will receive rewards for their efforts.

“PSA: We’re removing #Gears5 Map Builder and unlocking its achievements for all players as the team focus on future projects,” the studio tweeted from its official Gears of War account.

The tweet notes that the ‘I Made it All By Myself’ achievement, which requires the creation and publishing of an Escape Hive map; and the 'Homegrown Hive' achievement, which involves completing a Featured community built Escape Hive, will be unlocked.

Anyone who has attained the former achievement will get an exclusive banner, while having the latter achievement unlocked earns an in-game reward of 10k Coins. The Gears 5 Map Builder will be removed soon, but at least you needn't worry about there being any unobtainable achievements.

Gears 5 launched in September 2019, and is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. You can read our review here.

  • This is how it's done! Offlining a service with associated achievements? Just unlock them.
  • Agreed other companies (looking at Ubisoft just recently) need to do the same for future unobtainable cheevos if they are going offline/removing it.
  • Totally agreed.
  • All gaming companies should get behind this; unlock the list for anyone who's got one or more achievements if you close the servers or shut off your game in any other way. Been dreaming about this forever now and I don't even care about my completion percentage.
