WWE wrestler The Miz has revealed that he wants to play beloved Mortal Kombat character Johnny Cage in the live-action movie series.

Speaking on the Out of Character talk show, the wrestler announced his ambition to step into the boots of Cage while discussing his upcoming film and TV work, and revealed that he had even done some training for the possible role.

“I mean, hell, I wanna play Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat, baby, you kidding me? I've been working on my splits, I've been working on my kicks.”

The Miz went on to confirm that he wasn't kidding around when the host asked if he was serious about practicing Cage's iconic moves.

“One hundred percent! As soon as I saw that Mortal Kombat [the movie] was out, and there was no Johnny Cage yet, my name was literally trending worldwide number one as ‘we want Miz as Johnny Cage’, I was like, if they want that to happen, I need to basically make sure that I am prepared and ready. That if that opportunity presents itself, then I will be ready and focused,” explained The Miz.

“So I called my trainer that helped me with [WWE film] Marine 6, working on kicks and everything like that. I was like ‘how do you do [Johnny Cage’s] intro kicks, I need to learn these and have them properly done, I need them left-handed and right-handed, because Johnny can do both'. So yeah, I've been working on that, working on the splits, both legs.”

When asked if he can now do the splits, The Miz confirmed that it was “almost there” but he would likely rip his trousers if he attempted to perform the show of flexibility on camera then and there.

Johnny Cage isn't the only pop culture character that The Miz wants to play, however, and he also namechecked DC Comics superhero Booster Gold as a role he'd like to take on. However, with a sequel to last year's Mortal Kombat movie confirmed to be in development, it's not outside the realm of possibility that we might see the popular wrestler taking on the mantle of Johnny Cage in the near future.

  • Eh, I guess that could work.
  • I could see this being okay, I mean we know he is athletic enough for the role, but can be bring the rest of the role. While Johnny is incredibly cocky and grating, he's not just a douche nonstop. The Miz can do the cocky arrogance, but not sure about the rest.
