505 Games, developer Rabbit & Bear Studios, and NatsumeAtari have today launched Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising, the prequel and companion game to Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, from Suikoden co-creator Yoshitaka Murayama.
A fast-paced 2.5D action RPG inspired by Suikoden, Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising takes place in and around the town of Neveah, which lies in ruin after a devastating earthquake. As the townspeople work to rebuild, you'll venture into the newly-revealed ancient Runebarrows deep underground, where valuable and powerful treasures reside.
Carefree treasure hunter CJ looks to complete a rite of passage and bring a haul home to her family, while spellcaster Isha taxes scavengers to help reconstruct the town, at the behst of her missing father, who is also the mayor. Kangaroo-like merc Garoo, meanwhile, claims to be in it for the money, but he's a big softy at heart.
Each of the game's characters have their own fighting style, which you'll need to master as you take on massive bosses, using timing-based combos called ‘Link Attacks’. As you rebuild New Neveah, you can also unlock new weapons, armour, accessories, and more. You can find out more in the new launch trailer below.
Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising is out now for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC, priced $14.99/£12.99/€14.99, also available via Game Pass. Additional rewards unlocked in Rising will also carry over to Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes when it launches next year.
