EA has announced that the highly-requested option to customise your Sim's pronouns has now been added to The Sims 4.
Version one of the customisable pronouns feature focuses on pronouns in the English language, although the developer intends to “update and expand” the feature over time. There will also be some instances where the verb following the pronoun may not be correct, such as saying “they likes” rather than “they like”, but in the future, the developer will look at crafting text in a way that avoids these issues.
EA first announced it was looking into adding customisable pronouns into The Sims 4 last year, and worked together with the It Gets Better Project and GLAAD to learn more about how pronouns are used, particularly by trans and nonbinary people.
“Through this research and through doing a deep dive into the game, we’ve learned about all of the different complex areas that binary gender was present in The Sims 4. From here we then worked with our team to come up with some wireframe designs to help us work on making this feature a reality,” said producer John Faciane.
It's a small update which won't have a huge impact for the majority of players, but it's great to see this added for those players who want their Sims to better represent themselves.
