Developer Asobo Studio has today released the new Top Gun: Maverick expansion for Microsoft Flight Simulator, tying in with the sequel to the 1986 high concept classic, in which Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer play beach volleyball and stuff. Oh, and fly jets while being berated by Michael Ironside and Tom Skerritt.

Top Gun: Maverick is in cinemas now, while the new DLC offers new challenges and a new skin for the F/A-18E Super Hornet, based upon the movie. There are also three new training missions to tackle from the cockpit of the Super Hornet, offering the chance to master unrestricted take-offs, split S manoeuvres, and low altitude, high velocity flights.

Five high-speed challenges, which demand fast reflexes while flying across mountain ranges and canyons, are also available with the DLC, alongside a challenge that tasks you with landing on the deck of an aircraft carrier. A “never-before-unveiled hypersonic aircraft that can attain speeds of Mach 10 and altitudes greater than 150,000 above sea level” is also teased.

The pack also adds a mission, in which you can fly towards the stratosphere, which sounds pretty intense. You can jump into the free Top Gun: Maverick expansion in Microsoft Flight Simulator now on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One (via Cloud Gaming), and PC through Xbox Game Pass. Check out the trailer below.
