Focus Entertainment has announced Aliens: Dark Descent, a new single-player squad-based shooter in the Aliens universe.

In Aliens: Dark Descent, players are dropped into an original Alien story with players leading a squad of marines in real-time combat against hordes of xenomorphs (as well as some zombie-looking creatures in the trailer).

Speaking of, the game was announced alongside an extended cinematic trailer, and we got a brief glimpse of Dark Descent's top-down gameplay towards the end.

“The entire team at Tindalos is dedicated to delivering a gaming experience faithful to the spirit of the Alien franchise, and adding its own, never-seen-before elements to this iconic universe,” said creative director Romain Clavier. “The gameplay we have developed is unique, inspired from our favourite tactical and CRPG games and packaged in nerve-wracking, real-time action. Translating from film to our game the sheer terror caused by the deadliest species known to man was quite a challenge, but I'm confident most of you will end up in strung-out shape - as Hicks himself would say.”

Aliens: Dark Descent is coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC.

  • This look really good. I hope it does stick to the movies like this said.
  • I do enjoy this trailer, very cinematic and cool.

Tells me nothing about the game or it's intents so I'll be cynical and doubting until I see more. Aliens has burned me so many times.
  • The trailer is good, but after playing Alien Fire Team Elite which was so monotonous and grew boring very fast, I don't have high hopes for this. Looks like it is going to be another time four simpleton guys fighting endless hordes of xenomorphs in tight corridors and grinding kills, weaponry, stuff and shit to the point of exhaustion.
  • @CANTINFLAS - Disagree on Aliens: FIreteam Elite. name notwithstanding, the game was faaaar better than I expected it to be, but it's essentilly a WWZ-like so the cycle of levelling gear and classes to up the difficulty is central to the genre. It was incredibly faithful to the source material, had excellent shooting and had a surprising degree of enemy variety.

Can understand it might not be for everyone if you after something with more of a traditional camoaign, though.
