Devolver Digital has announced The Plucky Squire, a gorgeous-looking action adventure game, with one of the best trailers of this non-E3 season.

The quirky publisher ran another entertaining annual showcase last night, taking the piss out of the litany of industry mergers happening right now, and bringing back fan favourite characters from previous presentations. In the process, however, Devolver Digital also announced The Plucky Squire, a wonderfully charming adventure game that looks to be pulling inspiration from both 2D and 3D Zelda.

The game follows Jot, a storybook character who discovers a huge three-dimensional world outside of the pages of his book. The evil Humgrump discovers that he is the villain of the book, and kicks out the heroic Jot into the real world (aka a kid's bedroom) in order to change the story in his favour.

The art style is simply wonderful, and sees Jot changing between 2D and 3D gameplay in a way that's reminiscent of Link's mural ability in The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. The Plucky Squire is being developed by indie studio All Possible Futures, founded by former Pokémon art director James Turner and The Swords of Ditto game director Jonathan Biddle.

The Plucky Squire is coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC in 2023. Make sure to check out the trailer for yourself down below.
