Overwatch 2 will be a free-to-play title when it launches in October, Blizzard has announced.
The hero shooter series will be leaving its premium priced days behind, and launching as a free to play title later this year. Alongside new gameplay, we also got a look at Overwatch 2's brand new hero, Junker Queen. The Australian-born ruler of Junkertown will be the newest tank hero to join the Overwatch world.
Blizzard will be revealing more information about Overwatch 2's live-service model, seasonal content plan, and the closed beta testing during an Overwatch 2 Reveal Event on 16th June 2022 at 18:00 BST / 10:00 PT.
“We can't wait to roll out the beginning of the Overwatch 2 experience on October 4 and introduce an exciting new competitive vision, featuring a reimagining of the iconic heroes, maps, and gameplay that made the original game so compelling,” said Blizzard president Mike Ybarra. “This is the beginning of an always-on and always-evolving era for the franchise, and a recommitment to serving players with frequent and substantial updates planned well into the future to keep Overwatch 2 fresh and fun for many years to come.”
Overwatch 2 is launching in early access on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on 4th October 2022. You can check out the new trailer down below.
