Obsidian Entertainment has announced Pentiment, a narrative adventure game set in the 16th century, and brought to life to look like renaissance manuscripts and woodcut prints.

Directed by Josh Sawyer, game director on Pillars of Eternity, Pentiment sees you playing as Andreas Maler, a journeyman artist working in the scriptorium of Kiersau Abbey. Players will decide Maler's choices, from his educational background to his lifestyle, before he later becomes entangled in a series of murders over 25 years.

You'll have to investigate the murders, investigating everyone from peasants, thieves, craftsmen, to monks, nuns, nobles, and saints. How you do so is up to you - you could be eavesdropping or digging up bodies, but whatever you choose, there will be consequences.

“We are very excited to share this unique interpretation of life in 16th-century Germany, and we can’t wait to release more information with you about Pentiment leading up to its launch this November,” said studio head Feargus Urquhart.

Pentiment is coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Xbox Cloud Gaming through Xbox Game Pass in November 2022.
