Polish developer Plot Twist has announced The Last Case of Benedict Fox, a demonic mix of metroidvania and cinematic platformer.

This upcoming indie follows the titular character of Benedict Fox, a detective who has to fight demons, solve elaborate puzzles, and explore interconnected maze-like locations. Along the way, you'll uncover a plot involving secret organisations, forbidden rituals, and murder most foul. Along the way, Benedict is accompanied by his own demonic companion, bound to him at birth, allowing the detective to explore the minds of the recently deceased. Here, memories and traumas take on physical forms that can deal real damage to Benedict.

“When we started the project, we knew we wanted to create a world you would believe in, tell a story that would stay with you, and design a gameplay that would pull you in. To these ends, we’ve made The Last Case of Benedict Fox a hand-crafted metroidvania experience,” said creative director Bartłomiej Lesiakowski.

Combining “a metroidvania’s depth and richness” along with “the immersive atmosphere of cinematic platformers”, The Last Case of Benedict Fox also pulls influence from noir fiction, and it looks rather lovely too. You can see it in action in the trailer down below.

The Last Case of Benedict Fox is launching on Xbox Series X|S via Xbox Game Pass and PC in Spring 2023.

  • One of the highlights of the show for me. Looks like it has a really cool atmosphere and a creepy story.
