Dragon's Dogma 2 Announced, Officially in Production Using Capcom's RE Engine

Capcom has officially announced that Dragon's Dogma 2 is now in production, using the company's proprietary RE Engine (the same engine used to power Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil VII, and the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3), a whole decade on from the release of the original.

Confirmed by director Hideaki Itsuno, who's been toying with the idea of a Dragon's Dogma sequel for some years, Dragon's Dogma 2 will be set within the same high fantasy realm, with monsters to fight and similarly unique gameplay mechanics, which we're hoping means a return for the first game's pawn system.

In the ‘10 Years of Dragon's Dogma' developer video below, Itsuno discusses the inspirations behind the first Dragon's Dogma, from classic pen-and-paper RPGs, to the genre as a whole. Since the director has wrapped work on Devil May Cry 5, having also worked on Devil May Cry 2, 3, and 4, he now has his eye firmly on “his passion project”.

Dragon's Dogma 2 also counts Dragon's Dogma veterans Daigo Ikeno and Kenichi Suzuki among key members of its development team, and Capcom is set to reveal more details on the long-awaited sequel at a later date. You can watch the 10 Years of Dragon's Dogma video below.
