Forza Motorsport to Feature 4K Resolution at 60fps and Real-Time Ray Tracing on Xbox Series X

Developer Turn 10 has shared some additional details on Forza Motorsport for Xbox Series X|S, following its reveal at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase last week. As well as being able to choose time of day and weather conditions, the new Forza Motorsport will also have some impressive specs under the hood.

Promising a “generational leap in immersion”, Forza Motorsport will include overhauled physics, advanced car damage, and real-time ray tracing. On Xbox Series X, you can also expect 4K resolution at 60fps, and on Xbox Series S, 1080p resolution also at 60fps. Forza Creative Director Chris Esaki is also keen to point out that Turn 10 is in now way misleading anyone with its claims of real-time ray tracing.

"Ray tracing is here. It’s on track and most importantly, it’s real-time gameplay," Esaki confirmed during the latest episode of Forza Monthly (via VGC). “I really want to make that clear: when we say ‘on track’, it doesn’t mean it’s only in replays or it’s only in Photo Mode on track and we’re just being funny with words.”

Esaki continued: “We’re not trying to mislead you here. When you’re racing and when you are playing the game, ray tracing is on. We want to be really clear about that," he explained. “When you’re playing it, it’s a level of immersion there that can be subtle at times but it’s a thing that really just pulls you into the visuals and experience unlike we’ve had before. When we talk about ray tracing, yeah, it looks amazing: it looks photo-real, it looks immersive, and you get that in gameplay – I want to be really clear about that.”

You can take a look at Forza Motorsport in action in the gameplay demo below. The game is due to hit Xbox Series X|S and PC in spring 2023.

  • Looks magnificent!!!!!!
  • Awesome dude, Cowabunga !!!!!
  • Someone's been playing the new TMNT game..
  • But still not clear. The game does 4k/60fps, but if raytracing is on is it still 60fps or does it drop to 30?
