Activision scrapped plans for a Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 remake, according to the man himself, Tony Hawk.
Speaking during a livestream on Twitch, Hawk claimed that the controversial merging of developer Vicarious Visions into Blizzard saw any plans for a follow up to the excellent Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 scrapped.
“I wish I could say we have something in the works, but, you know, Vicarious Visions kind of got disbanded, and Activision is going through all their stuff, so I don't know what's next,” said Hawk.
Hawk then responds to a comment from another person on the stream, about there being a Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 remaster in the future.
“I mean, that was the plan,” Hawk said. “Even up until the release date of [Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2] we were going 3 + 4. And then Vicarious got kind of absorbed, and then [Activision] was looking for other developers, and then it was over.”
Hawk goes on to explain that Activision was trying to find another developer to make Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4, but didn't trust any other studio the way that they trusted Vicarious Visions, despite receiving pitches from other studios.
Hawk's comments make the disappearance of the hugely talented team at Vicarious Visions all the more disappointing, with the studio having worked on two massively successful remasters in the form of Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2.
