While DICE is a studio best known for the Battlefield series, it's managed to conjure up a couple of other titles on the side, whether it's the multiplayer shenanigans of Star Wars Battlefront or single-player acrobatics of Mirror's Edge. However, it seems that the developer currently has “no time” for anything other than Battlefield.
Talking to GamesIndustry.biz, DICE General Manager Rebecka Coutaz was asked whether plans to work on anything else beyond Battlefield were currently on hold. “Totally,” her frank response begins.
“We are only focusing on Battlefield 2042. There is no time for anything else and this is what we want to do. In three years, we want to be the first-person shooter powerhouse that DICE deserves to be, and that is what we’re going for,” she said.
“I want the team to be really proud about Battlefield 2042. That is what they are chasing and they have their heart and the passion there. We want to be really, really proud of DICE,” Coutaz added. “We want DICE to be the number one spot for first-person shooter games in Europe, and one of the powerhouses in the world. It’s a fabulous team. We’re going to make magic together.”
Of course, there's magic in the likes of Mirror's Edge and Star Wars Battlefront, but, for the time being, it seems that DICE's focus will be entirely on Battlefield - especially given the less than stellar response to Battlefield 2042, which launched in a bit of a state last November, and only got around to launching Season 1: Zero Hour last month.
