Developer Playground Games has rolled out a hefty Series 9 update for Forza Horizon 5, seemingly laying the groundwork for the upcoming Hot Wheels expansion next month, with new Hot Wheels cars and co-op for the game's Horizon Stories mode.
With the new update, you can embark upon Horizon Stories in co-op with up to five fellow racers, with the player able to rack up the highest score in the convoy and complete all of the requisite objectives granting the entire team credit. Speaking of convoys, the update includes various fixes, including one for a bug that was preventing 12-player convoys launching events.
Additionally, there's a new EV Monthly Rivals Event and new cosmetic items due to arrive over the ensuing weeks, many of which will be Hot Wheels-related. Those new Hot Wheels vehicles, meanwhile, include the 2018 Hot Wheels 2JetZ, the 1968 Plymouth Barracuda Formula-S, and the 1957 Hot Wheels Nash Metropolitan Custom, alongside others available to unlock via a Wheelspin bonus.
The 2005 Hot Wheels Mustang and the 2012 Hot Wheels Rip Rod are among those Wheelspin rides, also available to unlock in the Hot Wheels expansion when it drops. You can consult the full Forza Horizon 5 Series 9 patch notes here.
The Forza Horizon 5 Hot Wheels expansion will be arriving for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC on 19th July, priced $19.99/£16.74, or available with the Forza Horizon 5 Premium Edition, Premium Add-Ons Bundle, or Expansions Bundle.
