“As per a reliable source with clear accuracy on Rockstar plans, remasters of GTA IV and RDR1 were on the table a few years ago, but Rockstar chose not to proceed with the projects in mind," insider Tez2 (whose Rockstar leaks have proved reliable in the past) remarked on Twitter (via VGC). "The poor reception of the Trilogy DE might be a reason behind that decision."
Presumably, Grand Theft Auto IV would have suffered similar music licensing issues to Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition, given that some music has already been cut from the game. Both GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption would have made for interesting remasters, however. Although, if we're remastering Red Dead games, how about starting with Red Dead Revolver first, eh?
Ah Rockstar, you reap what you sow. They shit out a lazy remaster trilogy, and they got deservedly dragged for it. I would have loved to have seen GTA IV and RDR given a decent remaster, but they clearly can’t be trusted with their own properties any more, and given how much they’ve been milking GTA V over the last near decade, their complete embracing of microtransactions, and their near non-existent portfolio of their other IP’s, the writing has been on the wall for some time; Rockstar seemingly just don’t care about anything other than cashing in.
They make ALL that money from MTAs and cheap out on their remasters, they're poorly received and then they decide to can other projects they were probably going to cheap out on and ruin as well. I think R* did us all a favour.
As much as I would like a remaster of GTA 4 I wouldn't trust current R*. At this point I have no desire for GTA 6, can't help but feel it's going to be shit.

Remasters of Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption were apparently being planned by Rockstar, according to an insider, who also speculates that the rather lukewarm reception to Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition, might have put the brakes on both.
