Indie publisher Versus Evil has announced a partnership with Australian studio Drop Bear Bytes, to bring isometric RPG, Broken Roads, to consoles and PC next year. Set within a futuristic, post-apocalypse featuring authentic real-world locations and landmarks, Broken Roads will tell a story of West Australia's remaining survivors.

The game has an “intricate” hand-drawn aesthetic, while developer Drop Bear Bytes counts several industry veterans among its ranks, including Fallout 2 and Wasteland 2 developer Colin McComb as Creative Lead, and Leanne Taylor-Giles, whose credits include Rainbow Six Siege and Torment: Tides of Numenera.

Blending traditional and all-new RPG elements, alongside a “classless” system for nigh-unlimited character development opportunities based upon Humanist, Utilitarian, Machiavellian, and Nihilist philosophies, Broken Roads will also include a ‘Moral Compass’ system, tracking your dialogue options and quest decisions.

Broken Roads will also include a soundtrack by Tim Sunderland, composed using instruments made out of everyday objects, in a bid to create a “wholly unique and distinctive tone”. Broken Roads is due release for Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and PC in 2023 - check out the trailer below.
