Developer Striking Distance Studios has debuted some new gameplay from The Callisto Protocol, the studio's upcoming sci-fi survival horror from the director of Dead Space. Like that game, Callisto features plenty of dismemberment and gore, as well as some grisly character deaths.

You can see more than a little bit of that in the new gameplay footage - taken from the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 version - below, which also showcases The Callisto Protocol's new ‘mutations’ feature. There's also some tense combat, which also showcases how you can use the environment to take down enemies.

The Callisto Protocol is coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC on 2nd December 2022.

  • The combat is so much more like Dead Space than I expected. Not a complaint. Good to see the inclusion of stealth options, too!
  • Really hope this isn’t going to get delayed as well!
  • Looking great!
  • Yeah it looks really awesome, but I gotta say I must’ve played wayyyy too many games cause everything I seen gameplay wise feels like I’ve done before in one game or another.

Just felt very predictable especially how the water slide death at the end happened. If that happens to you while playing you will restart at the top of the water slide and attempt to make it to the bottom without getting killed by the typical spinning fan.
  • This totally has Dead Space bones in it, which isn't a knock. From the POV of the camera, the "interface" of health and ammo, atmosphere, etc. I mean hell, even Dead Space had a sliding, trying to avoid obstacles section. But I guess like @4 stated, so many other games have done it, too. Probably will pick this up in a sale.
  • Just remember, this is coming from the creator[s?] of Dead Space, so of course it will feel familiar to it as that's the point [since they don't have the IP rights to Dead Space.]

Personally i'm really looking forward to playing this, and the remake of Dead Space.
