Bungie has revealed the first details on Destiny 2: Lightfall, the latest expansion for the game due to release in February 2023. The penultimate chapter in the Light and Darkness saga, Lightfall will have facing former Cabal emperor Calus, who has returned with his Pyramid fleet as a Disciple of the Witness, first introduced in The Witch Queen.
The new megacity of Neomuna on Neptune will serve as the battleground for Lightfall, with the new Strand subclass granting Guardians powerful abilities, as Calus and his Shadow Legion launch an attack. Pre-orders for Destiny 2: Lightfall are now available, with anyone who purchases the Lightfall + Annual Pass granted immediate access to the Exotic Auto Rifle Quicksilver Storm, and other bonus items. Season of Plunder has also gone live in Destiny 2, tasking Guardians with chasing down the escaped Kell of Darkness Eramis, who is scouring the galaxy for potent relics. You'll need to form a fireteam of “swashbuckling” Guardians to take Eramis down, tackling new activities and uncovering secret treasures along the way. Over the next week, Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, and The Witch Queen expansions are available to play for free.
New activities in Season of Plunder include Ketchcrash ship-to-ship combat for up to six players via matchmaking; Expeditions for three players digging for treasure, using assembled treasure maps; and Pirate Hideouts with weekly missions and powerful relics to steal from the hideouts of pirate lords.
The Arc 3.0 subclass has also been “retooled”, using Aspects and Fragments to customise your Arc playstyle, and wield powerful new abilities. New players can catch up with the free limited-time Gift of the Thunder Gods chest, filled with gear that will help Guardians to quickly level up and prepare for Season of Plunder. Items include two Exotic and ten Legendary items to claim in Destiny 2's H.E.L.M. area.
Finally, the King's Fall Raid is also set to return as a reprised raid from The Taken King, pitting Guardians against Oryx on the Dreadnaught. The King's Fall Raid will be coming to Destiny 2 from 26th August, free to all players. As ever, there will also be a race to be the World's First fireteam to beat King's fall, starting from 10am PT on Friday 26th August.
