EA has announced that NHL 23 will be releasing this October, bringing more puck-based ice hockey action to consoles, with the usual crop of features and improvements. On the cover this year, meanwhile, is Anaheim Ducks centre Trevor Zegras and Canada national team forward Sarah Nurse.

With Zegras and Nurse sharing cover duties for NHL 23, the new game's Ultimate Team will introduce mixed men's and women's teams, so you can use any players you like to assemble your dream HUT roster. A rotating HUT Rivals playlist will also be introduced, with three additional tiers of rewards, based on Wins and Win Streaks.

Franchise will have more ways to customise the league, too, while on the ice, Stumble Actions for last-ditch shots, Loose Puck Plays, and Enhanced Goalie AI are among the enhancements in store. Cross-platform matchmaking will also be coming to NHL 23 via a post-launch update later in the year.

Other new features include a new Crowd Engagement Score algorithm to heighten the gameday atmosphere with realistic, reactive crowds, and on-ice protections for national and NHL teams. You'll even be able to choose new celebrations for big moments like Stanley Cup victories, as well as custom post-goal light shows, and team animations.

NHL 23 will be coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4 on 14th October, with a pre-order of the NHL 23 X-Factor Edition prior to 16th September granting access to a HUT Team Builder Choice Pack, dual entitlement, 3-day early access, 4,600 NHL Points, and a bunch of other content for HUT mode.
