Developer Half Mermaid Productions has released Immortality, the new game from Her Story and Telling Lies creator Sam Barlow, an “interactive movie trilogy” in which you need to determine the cause of film star Marissa Marcel's mysterious disappearance.
Barlow's first dalliance with horror since 2009's Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, Immortality revolves around the missing Marcel, who made three movies, none of which were released. Exploring newly discovered footage from those three lost films, you'll use a ‘match cut’ mechanic to navigate “via cinematic language”, and uncover hidden secrets.
Written alongside Allan Scott (Don’t Look Now, Queen's Gambit), Amelia Gray (Mr. Robot, Maniac), and Barry Gifford (Wild at Heart, Lost Highway), Immortality is billed as a “boldly ambitious attempt to deconstruct cinema", which riffs upon the mechanics of Pokémon Snap, albeit in a way that is “messy and personal".
Immortality is available to play on Xbox Series X|S and PC, via Xbox Game Pass. Check out the launch trailer below.
