Developer 1047 Games has announced that Splitgate, its portal-based first-person shooter, will be receiving a major update this month, before the studio turns its hand to an Unreal Engine 5 shooter project set within the Splitgate universe.
When the update drops, Splitgate will move out of beta, launching a new season with a free ‘Infinite’ Battle Pass with an infinite number of tiers featuring new characters, skins, and other items to unlock. Featuring arena shooter mechanics, physics-based design, and portals, Splitgate has achieved more than 18 million downloads since releasing on PC in 2019, then Xbox and PlayStation in 2021.
“After careful consideration and much deliberation the 1047 team has determined that in order to build the game that fans deserve – and to build it in a way that isn’t trying to retrofit our existing game – we are turning our attention away from iterative, smaller updates and going all-in to focus on a new game in the Splitgate universe which will present revolutionary, not just evolutionary, changes to the gameplay,” said CEO and creator Ian Proulx.
Splitgate will remain online for the foreseeable future, with smaller updates and fixes to be rolled out alongside weekly featured playlists, item drops, and so on. Splitgate will be receiving its final major update and leaving beta on 15th September.
