Blizzard has unveiled what's in store for Overwatch 2 Season One Battle Pass, with a cyberpunk theme and Mythic Genji Skin among the rewards you'll be able to unlock, alongside new character Kiriko. A total of three new heroes will be available to returning players of the original Overwatch, upon logging in any time during Season One or Season Two.
The 2016 Overwatch will close down on 2nd October, Eurogamer reports, paving the way for Overwatch 2 to take over as the sole free-to-play Overwatch game. "Roughly a day before Overwatch 2 launches, we're going to be taking down the Overwatch 1 servers," Commercial Lead Jon Spector explained. “So that means, as a practical point, that October 2nd really is the last day to go in and play Overwatch 1.”
Spector added that there will be a “27-hour downtime” period while Blizzard works on getting Overwatch 2's servers up and running, while current Overwatch players will be able to pre-download Overwatch 2 ahead of release, ready for the game's debut on 4th October. Overwatch 2 will then adopt a seasonal model, with the studio planning new content every nine weeks, including new maps, heroes, and cosmetics.
With Overwatch 2's new seasonal model, content will be unlocked using Overwatch Coins or earned via each season's Battle Pass - loot boxes have been given the heave-ho. New character Kiriko will be available via the Battle Pass, or for all original Overwatch players when logging in during Season One or Two - Overwatch 2's roster of heroes will apparently stretch to a total of thirty-five.
Overwatch 2 will be launching in early access as a free-to-play title with a Season One Battle Pass and cross-progression support from 4th October. You can find out more here and in the trailers below.
