Tiny Tina's Wonderlands has proved to be a great success, and will be the start of a new franchise, according to Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford.
Speaking during the Embracer Group annual general meeting, Pitchford said that Tiny Tina's Wonderlands “shattered all of our target expectations both critically and commercially”, and has established a “firm beachhead”.
“We now clearly have a new franchise on our hands,” Pitchford commented, before going onto the confirm that future Wonderlands experiences were “already under development at Gearbox”.
It certainly shattered my expectations. I thought it was going to be a good game like the other Borderlands titles. Instead I got a watered down, soulless, woke version of a game I used to love. A game that used to be filled with comedy is now bereft of humor. None of the "jokes" landed in this one. The writing is terrible. I'd be astounded if the people that wrote Assault on Dragon's Keep were involved in any way in this game. That DLC was outstanding. It was so cool and funny. This game was an insult when compared to that.
The only good thing this game did was introduce spells. That was good. In fact the gameplay is the stand out quality in this game that keeps it from being utterly terrible. Sadly this is lessened when you get to the end game and find out it's repetitive as all hell. If I never do another Chaos Chamber, it'll be too soon.
Hopefully when they make another one of these, they go back to what made the series good in the first place. Stop watering down your games Gearbox. Stop going for these teethless PC T rated tween "jokes." Go back to being M rated. Go back to dark humor, crass language, over the top violence and great variety of gameplay. I want to get excited about Borderlands / Wonderlands again.
@#1 you seem to be in the minority. Everyone I know who has played it, including myself, really enjoyed it, especially over Borderlands 3. I agree the Chaos Chamber was pretty poor endgame (not to mention the abysmal DLC in the season pass), but I thought the base game was very fun. The Overworld was a cool addition, I enjoyed spells more than grenades, and I felt like they finally found a good balance with rare weapon drop rates. Plus the gameplay was tight as ever.
@2 nope, the story and humour was absolute bottom tier trash and that’s without even mentioning the dlc. The only thing decent was the gameplay, but when you’ve got a game that’s more enjoyable on mute than with the sound on, you know you screwed up. The Assault on Dragon’s Keep was amazing all round, this however… big fat nope.
