Apex Legends developer Respawn has put out a statement tackling an increase in harassment towards its employees.

“Recently, we have seen increased harassment towards members of our development team,” begins the statement.

“We welcome community input, however, the line between constructive feedback and the harassment of our dev team cannot be crossed. We want to remind our players that we have a zero tolerance policy for threats and the harassment of our developers. We will take appropriate action to ensure the health and safety of our team.”

“We love hearing feedback and will continue to work alongside our community to foster a respectful, collaborative environment, and uphold the competitive integrity of our game.”

Respawn isn't the first developer to address growing harassment towards its employees. Destiny 2 developer Bungie revealed that it had reduced communication with players due to “real threats” towards people working at the studio.

  • Look I don’t like that people harass developers either and they should be banned. But my god these developers are starting to sound like whiny people and it’s a victimhood complex. Look, if you put yourselves online and tell everyone your a developer of a popular game to get more followers then you open yourself up to keyboard warriors. I have been on social media for all over a decade and never have I put my job information online. Sticks and stones people, don’t let words tear you down.
  • @1 fair.
  • Nah @1 this ain't it.

The blame and responsibility lies solely on the harassers themselves.

If it feels like a "victimhood complex" it's likely because this shitty behaviour is just so common, and devs are starting to actually vocalise opposition to it.

Devs should be allowed to have social media accounts and engage with their community without the fear of doxxing, harassment and death threats.
  • Unpopular opinion maybe but I feel it goes both ways. Devs could harden up and simply ignore the harassment and the ones sending the harassment could find something better to do with their lives.

End of the day, this won't change. People are always going to share their opinions and sometimes they're negative.
  • Relationship between devs and gamers has in general seen better times…
