Frictional Games has revealed Amnesia: The Bunker, an upcoming entry in its celebrated horror series. The twist? It’s an open-world game.

Amnesia: The Bunker is coming to consoles and PC in 2023. There isn’t a fixed release date yet, but we do have a reveal trailer:

The description reads:

“Amnesia: The Bunker is a first-person horror game from the makers of SOMA and Amnesia.

Left all alone in a desolate WW1 bunker with only one bullet remaining in the barrel, it’s up to you to face the oppressing terrors in the dark. Keep the lights on at all costs, persevere, and make your way out alive.”

The game’s key features, as per a Frictional press release, are as follows:

  • Player choice – emergent gameplay in a sandbox horror survival experience
  • Unscripted environment – objects, threats, and resources, change in every playthrough
  • Adaptive horrid threats – an ever-present gruesome creature that stalks the player.
  • Tactile immersion – all-new levels of interaction with the world through puzzle-solving and tool handling
  • Absorbing yet terrifying tale – experience hell on earth in a fictional appalling story
  • Engrossing atmosphere and tension – enhanced lighting effects and carefully designed sound effects for a real horror experience.

Amnesia: The Bunker will be out next year, on consoles and PC. There is no word yet whether it will be next-gen only.

  • Because it’s randomized it probably will be less story focused and much shorter with focus on multiple runs. Just finished Rebirth which itself was OK but probably will wait for this to be on deep sale or on GP again…

The trailer literally says Xbox One and PS4.
