Miyazaki on Elden Ring Success: "I Try Not To Think About It Too Much"

Hidetaka Miyazaki has said that he is trying not to get distracted by the success of Elden Ring.

Speaking with Famitsu, Miyazaki, who has directed Dark Souls and Elden Ring, recently spoke to Famitsu about the latter game’s success. It has reached over 17.5 million copies sold, and it has won several awards already.

Miyazaki was asked about the game’s success, and he said (via VGC):

“I’m at a loss when people ask me why [it’s been so successful], but my feeling is that I don’t intend to change the way I’ve been making things in the future. I try not to think about it too much, because it could become a distraction when I make the next project. However, I am very grateful and feel honoured.”

Miyazaki then went on to talk about user feedback:

“Personally, I try not to look directly at user feedback. That’s because I can’t listen to all the users’ opinions. I’m afraid that if I do, the voices and opinions I happen to hear will have a strong influence on my future decisions, so I’m careful not to put other opinions directly into my own mind.”

In other recent FromSoftware news, the studio is apparently working on several new projects. Though nothing has been officially announced so far. All eyes on The Game Awards, perhaps?

  • Miyazaki, pat yourself on the back, lad.
  • Better to just focus on the next project. Maybe the next masterpiece. I'm happy he doesn't seem hung up on the success of his games and just works to further refine his craft and explore new things.
