Starfield will allow players to return to the planet Earth, and discover what happened to it, Bethesda has confirmed in a new Q&A.
In-universe, Starfield takes place over 300 years in the future, with humanity having expanded outward onto multiple planets and systems. However, players will also be able to return to Earth's own Solar System (known as the Old Neighbourhood) with an early quest asking players to discover exactly what has happened to Earth since humanity left.
Players will also be able to visit Mars, which has one of the earliest Human off-world settlements, a city called Cydonia, which has its own quests to discover.
