Fallout: New Vegas Collector's Edition is a Gambler's Paradise

Dan Webb
Before you start telling me how you walked through the valley of the shadow of doubt, I actually said "gambler's paradise" and not "gangsta's paradise."

Lame segues aside, Bethesda today announced a heavy-on-the-Vegas Collector's Edition for their upcoming fall title, Fallout: New Vegas, that's currently being developed by Obsidian.

For your hard-earned cash - how much currently remains a mystery though - you'll get some poker chips, a deck of Fallout: New Vegas cards, an art book and the almost obligatory "Making Of" DVD.

The full, unadulterated contents is as follows:

♠ “Lucky 7” poker chips. Each of the seven poker chips was designed to represent chips from the major casinos found on the New Vegas strip and throughout the Mojave Wasteland.

♠ A fully customised Fallout: New Vegas deck of cards. Each card in the pack has been uniquely illustrated to depict characters and factions found within the game. Use the cards to play poker, blackjack or Caravan, an original card game that was created by Obsidian especially for Fallout: New Vegas!

♠ A recreation of the game’s highly coveted “Lucky 38” platinum chip.

♠ A hardcover graphic novel “All Roads”, that tells the story of some of the characters and events that lead up to Fallout: New Vegas. “All Roads” was written by Chris Avellone, the game’s creative director, and created in conjunction with Dark Horse Comics.

♠ ‘The Making of Fallout: New Vegas’ DVD. This documentary DVD will contain exclusive video content, including interviews with the developers in which they take you from concept to creation and discuss topics such as story, setting, legacy of the Fallout franchise and more.

  • It looks pretty good.
  • looks good, might pick it up but might just get the normal, im running out of space
  • as much as I love the Fallout series, I can't see ponying up the dough to buy this.
  • Thats actually looks/sounds good.. I've never brought SE/CE before but this lokos worth it!
  • My problem with this is I want it, but Obsidian will no doubt make it crap, and as such, I don't want it...
  • might get this for the cards,i love fallout + poker!!!
  • looks amazing cant wait
  • just got into poker so this is going be a buy for me would love to play with them cards :D
  • I might just have to get this! But it means I won't get the Halo Reach legendary edition.
  • Sold.
  • I'll pass, this is kinda generic.
  • @6 I totally agree!!! however, i don't know if i will play with the cards, or keep 'em mint :S Catch 22
  • Will be getting this!
  • I love every collectors edition game from bethesda. 100% buy since I loved the previous fallout3
  • @12; No, it's a catch 21! Get it, cards? Haha. Will save my cash for the Halo: Reach Legendary edition. ~Bryce
  • Sweet i cant wait
  • @11 Generic? cos we are currently falling over all the gambling related special editions: Halo:slots, Gears:the roulette edition....lol. On topic this collecters edition looks sweet! I got the fallout 3 lunchbox and I'm probably gonna have to get this too (not least cos my girlfriend will kill me if I dont- she's a huge fallout 3 fan lol.) Peace.
  • I'll be getting standard edition. There's nothing unique there that stands out to me...as apposed to the in game armor and stuff with other games. I prefer things that i can use in game, and won't just sit there the rest of their life gathering dust.
  • "Before you start telling me how you walked through the valley of the shadow of doubt . . ." I think you mean 'shadow of death' there, Webb. I'm listening to Coolio right now and he never says, 'doubt.' I can't think of any other instance (pop culture, religion, etc.) where the phrase 'shadow of doubt' occurs. Anyway, Obsidian is a good developer. LucasArts forced them to cut out a lot of content from KotOR II, yet it was still a good game. Neverwinter Nights 2 and its expansions were mostly critically acclaimed. I have faith that New Vegas will be good.
  • Nope, regular edition for me. ima save my $$$ for halo reach legendary gonna put that statue on my desk
  • Il pick this up for sure great game series, keeps me going on the boring nights it passes the time!!
  • Oooooo shiny! I might pick this up, I like the idea of the Poker chips and card deck :P
  • This is one of the cooler collector's editions I've seen in a while, but I love Fallout and poker. I will definitely consider getting this, depending on the price. As far as the game, I have faith that Bethesda won't let Obsidian screw it up.
  • This may be the first collector's edition I ever get. Living in Vegas makes this even more awesome. Can't wait to find my destroyed house.
  • lol @ 24 I will get this is if they don't make it too expensive.
  • How much will it be? That is the question.
  • i gave up on collectors editions, in the end your just stuck with a load of crap that says Made in china on the bottom and you can never place the stuff in your house if you have some taste
  • not worth it
  • Gamestop is showing 79.99 on their site.
  • @ 26 Gamestop in US i belive is posting it around $80 so doing the maths quickly about £55 for UK though cant find a UK retailers showing it yet sadly :( game.co.uk is showing F:NV standard as £32.99
  • pass.
  • @19 I am pretty sure that was all part of his "Lame segue" or perhaps not! Why is it always the lamest ones seem to be the funniest.. probably just me. As for the topic, looks awesome but I wasn't caught in the hype for fallout 3 so Didn't get me a limited edition =/ Will probably just get the normal, game will be awesome!
  • Between this and the Alan Wake Collectors Edition they finally seem to be putting the "Collectors" bit into the whole deal. It's Fallout so I'm sold although I love the packaging I could really use another Fallout Lunch Box to stop the boys from fighting over the one.
  • this game is gonna be interesting to say the least but its gonna be s*** because the first one is unplayable to say the least
  • @34 - You could have said less by saying nothing at all.
  • I see some people are saving their money for the Halo Reach legendary edition, which is crap in my eyes. Personally, I am just too smart to spend that much cash for a legendary edition. The limited edition is nearly the same and will do it. The dust collector is not worth that extra money at all, and same goes to flaming helmet. But this game is not too expensive and has poker cards and chips. I loved the septim coin from oblivion so I'll love the platinum chip and I also need cards. Why normal cards when you can have nice Fallout cards? So I think this is a good deal, unlike the Halo reach legendary edition.(The limited edition is awesome though). Sure its just my oppinion and some people love the halo reach dust collector more.
  • Instant buy, I love making of dvds
  • is it fallout 3 expansion or a new game, i hope it contents old expansions !
  • A geeks heaven i guess. When did it stop being about the game and more about random crap?
  • Awesome. I really, really hope it's like the picture for every region. (I'm looking at you Arkham Asylum. Bloody £30 import tax just to get the best edition).
  • I have a bad feeling in the pit of my wallet..........
  • Looks nice :D
  • want want want!
  • orgazam
  • they can keep it.
  • i miss another bobblehead :-(
  • #38, its a whole new game. This is pretty cool looking CE. Definitely picking this one up.
  • must... resist... urge to drop a bunch of extra money on cool stuff that will just sit around collecting dust!
  • guna pre-order this at gamestation tomorrow :P
  • Boiyoiyoiyoing
  • I loved Fallout 3, and this game looks good, but I just can't see myself buying this CE.
  • My jaw dropped as soon as I saw this... I MUST HAVE IT
  • I have to get my hands on this
  • What's that word again? ... Oh yeah, WANT.
  • Can't fucking wait>>>>>!
  • Are we talking like, 80 like i "THINK" the Fallout 3 collectors edition was? I need to know price before I pre-order this.
  • finally a proper CE
  • I love it how they don't even mention a copy of the game, I would be so funny if you didn't get one.
  • Been spending most my life, living in a gamblers paradise! Actually I faucking hate that song. It's horrible! The synth will haunt till the day I die.
  • Fallout 3 to me was 1 of the Best games of the decade ! - i missed out on the lunchbox :(| but after countless hours enjoying fallout 3 id be a fool not to, and if its £55.00 its defiantly.+ bonus of poker cards ! and graphic novels always convince me.sounds like a good collectors edition to me WOOP WOOP.
  • Want!!!! But depends on price :(
  • Sweet, I collect playing cards!
  • yeah looks good. just hope its not too expensive
  • consider that shit bought! Fallout For Life!
  • MUST HAVE! Unless the game is good, ofcourse
  • *Looks at dusty pair of MW2 Night Vision Goggles*.... I think I'll pass...
  • Drool. i want!
  • gamestop has it up for pre-order for $80
  • Maybe poker chips will be the new currency in this game? Maybe the platinum ones are worth more or something...
  • I will have to get my Fallout 3 back from a friend and finally finish the game...sigh
  • gamestop it is!
  • I like the cards but i don't think i will buy the collector's edition just 4 that
  • I regret not buying CE of Fallout 3, so I will undo past sins with buying this! Can't wait!
  • wow...well i like NEVER buy Collector's Edition shyt but this one looks like a must for me. That deck of cards is gonna be SO SWEET to play with =]...Can't wait!!!
  • What can I say, I love Collector's Editions and I just might have to pick this one up as well.
  • ITS AWSOME BUT NO BOBBLE HEAD = A TINY DISSAPOINTED! right>/?
  • This is a insta-buy! WOOT WOOT
  • Well, Im sold.
  • OMFG WILL BUY NOW :D can't wait :D
  • Wow. Just. Wow.
  • Pass
  • #s 46 and 76, maybe someone will have one as a pre-order incentive. I wish places would have incentives for CE pre-orders just so those people (me too) can feel extra-extra special.
  • uncontrolable drolling well i was never a fan of collector editions but now i am!!
  • ce-le- wot ever u wanna call them = rip off
  • kudos was wondering when they would announce this.
  • looks awesome. I'll definetly get this collector's edition if it is $80
  • Considering this, kinda kicking myself in the gut for not getting the Collector's Fallout 3 with the awesome Vault-Tec Lunchbox, plus playing cards based on Fallout sound sweet. Still, if the price is too high in the UK then I may reconsider.
  • Lots of people seems to have no faith in Obsidian. They did an OK job with KotOR II. Also, are those of you that are sceptical aware of the fact that most of the team that developed Fallout 1+2 works for Obsidian. I think it's safe to say that they know what they're doing. Back on topic though, this is getting pre-ordered as soon as possible.
  • Umm... like totally getting it I guess :D Obsidian pretty much guarantees it's gonna be better than F3, and this edition looks sweet with all the collector's garbage every Fallout fan can't resist to spend his money on.
  • I think I am one of the only people here who aren't interested in this CE but loved Fallout 3. I loved the Fallout 3 LE because of the Lunchbox and the Bobblehead. Sorry but this CE has nothing in it to make me want to jump on the deal. No Pandora's box like God of War III had, Lock box like GTAIV, or Lunchbox like Fallout 3 so I will pass thank you.
  • Will be getting this edition fo so^^
  • I'll get it if its not too pricey, but the game itself is a day 1 buy.
  • All I hope is the game isn't as buggy as Fallout 3 was, what a nightmare that was.
  • Holy crap. That sound bloody awesome. I am getting the collector's edition, then! ^^
  • Not a gambler,so I think I'll save myself some money and stick with the normal version. Can't wait for it to come out.
  • Something tells me that power hips are going to possibly be curreny on this game, or is it just me that thinks so? But anyways this is just something ever Fallout fan has to pick up! I hope to get this if prices aren't outrageous. :D
  • On Gamestop.com it's $79.99
  • That's pretty sweet since I like poker. But I don't really play in real life anymore so guess I'll be getting the regular edition.
  • Casino chips* I fail so bad... And for $80, than its definitely a buy! :D
  • Don't see how this is that great of a collector's edition aside from the graphic novel...Would of been nice to see something like an action figure or a soundtrack of the game maybe. Not getting this :P
  • Looks like I'll be shelling out the extra cash for this. Looks too awesome.
  • Definitely buying this! Gotta love real collectors editions not packages that only give you in game content
  • @4 How have you never bought a special edition of any game ever? Thats like unbelievable...
  • Looks sweet! I like how it looks worn down.
  • do want. shall get :D
  • looks alright. Not bad, and is theme with the game.. to bad no in-game stuff though.
  • @ #5. I understand your reasoning. But this is more or less Fallout 3 in vegas. Which is just fine with me. So they cant really do that much to ruin it.
  • I'll buy this if I can find it dirt cheap in a year from now lol. It might even be a pass honestly. It looks great and everything but I can't get into gps games. I bought the fallout 3 ce and I've played the game twice. I would have loved to see another bobble head though...a vault boy bobblehead dressed as a casino dealer lol win!
  • haha gangsta's paradise reference, nice one webb :P
  • #90 since you seem to have an addiction to boxes might I suggest the NBA2K10 CE, it came with a mini locker and Kobe Bryant figure.
  • Oh and Webb, perfect bullet points!
  • It'll be a fine game, remember Obsidian made KotOR 2. Which in ways was just a new story and a few small teaks to the core gameplay of the original KotOR by Bioware. Everything will be the same except the story and setting, which isn't a bad thing but after awhile it gets bland. This collecters does looks great, I'm not the biggest fan of Fallout but this is just cool.
  • i agree with #18 i dont like buying collctors editions with out some in game reward.
  • reserved mine today.
  • The game industry just knows I'll buy a collector's Edition if they make oe for a game I want... Damn them.
  • Well, since I don't have any other games i'm looking forward to, and even though it isn't as great as I hoped, i'll but it. Hopefully Amazon gets another Amazon exclusive, like the Fallout 3 Survival Edition.
  • Got me. I'm definetly going to pick it up.
  • Looks cool, but I'll wait for a price
  • it would be kinda cool if you got an in game weapon or something. maybe a special house to live in. Looks kinda cool though. depends on the cost.
  • Hopefully I'm still employed when this comes out because this is one collector's edition I would consider picking up.
  • The fallout 3 collectors was amazing. Lunchbox + Bobblehead = Sweet. This one isn't nearly as good. The chips are okay. The deck is an okay touch. Wouldn't want to use it though. Wish there was another Vault Boy figure. Like one holding the tommy gun. Still getting it regardless. Fallout 3 was fun times with a Rock-it launcher, this will be just as good. Definitely Day One for me.
  • im totally going for this
  • WANT!
  • Yeah sure it looks nice, but if I'm going to need an extra $60 for the DLCs that will inevitably come out, no way I can spend the extra cash on a few poker chips.
  • For $80, I might consider it, especially if the graphic novel is any good.
  • Unless something special in-game comes with it, not interested. I agree w/ 124: would rather spend my cash on DLC than some of this garbage.
  • woo hoo some more collectibles for my collection
  • I'm going to buy this. It's not as cool as the Fallout 3 Collector's Edition, but it is still pretty neat.
  • This actually looks worth it. Hardcover graphic novels are usually about 10-25 bucks, the other swag is sweet, all in all, if this is 80$ i think i'm going to have to pay full-retail for a new game for the first time since Fallout3 lol.
  • ah, fallout. the one game with INTERESTING making-of dvd's. Well, when bethesda was in it in fallout 3 anyway. If this'll be up to 90 euros, it's a deal.
  • I have never bought a CE before but if its under seventy squid im having it!
  • So when does it arrive at my doorstep!!!!
  • Is the platinum chip made from real platinum? Please?
  • I totally missed the boat on the Fallout 3 collector's edition and will forever have a little bobblehead-shaped hole in my heart. That won't be happening with the New Vegas collector's. Once work has a confirmed release date and price, this baby is getting pre-ordered right away.
  • This CE looks & sounds just sweet. I might just by it.
  • i can't see myself putting down an extra $20 for poker chips and playing cards. not worth it to me. now, had they included a vegas-themed pepboy bobblehead.. i'd been all over it! but no, i won't be investing in this CE.
  • just throw a functioning fat man into the mix and see how fast these fly off the shelves lmao
  • I have to admit, that is one of the best CE's I have ever seen. All the extra stuff is superb. Cards you can use, a book to learn more, a making of DVD and trinkets from within the game. Not for me though, I'll wait on this game, still have Fallout 3 + DLC to play through.
  • Oeh! Love it! I wonder what the price is gonna be...
  • Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!
  • Might get this depending on pricing, looks good though.
  • Cool! I love fallout... but I doubt ill be getting this.
  • I wonder if xbox would do like they've done with FFXIII and Splinter Cell: Conviction and come up with a special 360 bundle too. Be nice to own a 360 with Vault-Boy or Wasteland damage on it.
  • it is "shadow of death" not "shadow of doubt"
  • Some poker chips and a deck of cards? =/
  • gamestop.ca has the prices listed out $59.99 for regular and $79.99 for CE
  • I want this, but theres so many games I want this year that I'll have to pass and get the normal version :(
  • The graphic novel and cards are really what make me want this. And I do have friends that play poker, so if I join them sometime, can bring the chips along for fun.
  • Am I the only one here that thinks this stuff is just a waste of space? If it was something in-game I would get it. Unless you like poker or playing cards, it's only going to be there to collect dust.
  • @149 man u probably don't even know how to get out of vault 101
  • Even if I'm greedy and stuff...but for Fallout I would sell my last used pair of boxers. This one's a def. buy for me. Then I will put the chips and stuff into my Fallout lunchbox and continue to be a happy little nerd.
  • Im sooo gonna get this:)
  • I'll just stick with tha actual game. Tha Fallout 3 set that came with tha Lunchbox, bobblehead and art book was nice, but this just has no appeal to me. :/
  • preordered this CE as soon as I heard about it on this website
  • Soooo going to get this on release :D
