Gamescom 2010: Ubisoft Announce Fighters Uncaged for Kinect

It was only a matter of time before someone came out with a game that allows you to throw uppercuts and kicks against thin air in front of Kinect, and it looks as though Ubisoft has beaten everyone to the punch, announcing Fighters Uncaged for Microsoft's divisive motion-controller.

With PlayStation Move getting The Fight: Lights Out, it seems only fitting that Kinect gets the same kind of treatment, and Ubi's Fighters Uncaged appears to fit the bill, offering motion-controlled fights in  21 different grimy locations against a menagerie of weirdly-named thugs. You can perform 70 different moves to, apparently.

"Fighters Uncaged is the first motion fighting game for Kinect, dedicated to a core audience," said Caroline Stevens, EMEA director of marketing at Ubisoft. "Fighters Uncaged requires players to get out of their seat to engage in a controller-free full-body combat game and experience the authentic fighting style of Thai boxing."

Yes, but you might want to stay away from the windows or at least close the curtains when you play though.

Check out the first four screens and the debut trailer for the full skinny on Fighters Uncaged, which is slated to arrive around the same time as Kinect in November 2010.

  • wow looks really promising :)
  • hope this shuts people up on how all the kinect games are lame
  • Idea is good, trailer looked boring
  • I can understand people not likeing kinect because they wont be able to sweat it out on FPS but to bitch about it everytime theres new news about it is just boring and wastefull.
  • Looks fine to me might rent it
  • Looks allright. I didnt like how the other fighter just kinda...stood there.
  • If I buy this game, I'm gonna kick my TV off the table :(
  • @Richard Walker "You can perform 70 different moves to, apparently." should be too not to :) OT: Game looks interesting
  • @6 As it was just a reveal, I doubt the other fighters will be so docile in the release version. Also, unless you are a professional MMA fighter, you wont be able to keep up with the AI opponents if they're too fast/hard/whatever. Could turn out to be very good
  • Maybe there's some kind of conspiracy to try and get gamers to become more fit. As for the game, trailer looked bad and I honestly can't see it working well when there has to be some kind of restriction on how many moves you can do. What was the point in the video of the guy irl doing moves though? Most likely that's just an actor and Kinect wasn't even there xD
  • @10 im sure about 90% of gamers or people in general could loose a few pounds. Myself included.
  • @10 - I really hope it is not 90%. I know I am not one of them. Not anymore at least. :) OT: Looks decent, but pretty slow! I will await a review first and then make the rental. I love that the developers do not seem scared to try the new motion control tech!! Keep them coming. the success of this accesory lies totally with the game makers. They make good games, this will succeed. They rely on tried and true Wii, it will fail.
  • Looks kind of cool, I'll check it out when it's released. It be a kick boxing type of workout game. At least there seems to be a point behind the game.
  • This looks pretty lame. Really slow paced for a fighting game. Has the potential to be incredibly frustrating, as the imprecise nature of motion controls is at odds with the high precision and complexity required of decent fighting games. Maybe the finished product will be better, but I would be embarrassed to show this to people if I had been a part of it.
  • @11... i hope you are exaggerating.
  • A Kinect game that looks interesting!
  • if i look at the screens, only thing i can think off is that they need to fix the word exausted to exhausted tho xD but on the other hand this is by far the coolest announced for kinect, not that that's hard to do
  • They should Demo me playing this game I hope its good! If it is Ill be sick at it.
  • Looks too cartoon-like for my liking. I'm hoping for more of a Fight Night Round 5 or the next Ufc game to have Kinect compatability, not cartoons.
  • I didn't even notice that. "Exausted" lol.
  • I'm a real fighter and dont think the cam can realy follw my movements will have to rent this first.
  • To be honest. This just looks silly. I mean if they can't release a game which lets you do any move you can actually do and show it on screen fighting then there really isn't much point in this. This game reminds me of Def Jam in the fighting sense though.
  • @11: You've got to be kidding me buddy. I'm 150 of straight muscle. I'm good on the weight side. Speak for thine own self.
  • @2 amen brother...amen
  • I can see this being like the Wii Sport's Boxing, where it's more frustrating than anything else.
  • wow pussies will bitch and moan regardless of what the announcement is about and about how silly we will look oh whatever rememeber the wii and how e1 was saying oh god ill punch a hole throught the tv and ill look stupid playing that etc.... so please stop bitching and take a moment to look at the wii's success, wether or not kinect is a total failure it will still make a fortune hell i know people who are buying it just to browse netflix with their hands and nothing else SO LETS JUST ALL STFU AND LET KINECT DO ITS THING EH?
  • if you can fight friends online then i'll seriously consider getting this
  • This could work really well but only if the controls are responsive enough. Will it actually mimic my motions (yay alliteration) or will it simply recognise what I've just done and then perform an outlandish special attack on the screen?
  • looks interesting, wonder about multiplaying on it. the only thing about kinect that really sucks is the price.
  • @#26 Oh, shit man. Yeah, you're totally right...actually wait aren't you just bitching about bitching? "wow pussies will bitch and moan regardless of what the announcement is about" And then people come on and bitch about their bitching who then bitch about THEIR bitching who bitch abou...fuck it you get the point. "how e1 was saying oh god ill punch a hole throught the tv and ill look stupid playing that etc." Yeah, you're right. You will look stupid playing this. "so please stop bitching and take a moment to look at the wii's success, wether or not kinect is a total failure it will still make a fortune hell i know people who are buying it just to browse netflix with their hands and nothing else" Yeah, the Wii was some what successful but you know what was more successful? Xbox 360.
  • They should use the picture-scanning technique in fighting games. Then fighting your friends would be a bit more fun.
  • "you might want to stay away from the windows or at least close the curtains when you play though" never mind that - i'd worry about breaking furniture. Especially for people like me who play xbox in their small bedrooms - this is one of the reasons im not going be forking out the money for kinect, as well as its large price tag.
  • @30: Wii is the best-seller of the seventh-generation consoles. I can't say for sure whether the game sales follow that trend, however, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were the case.
  • I gotta be honest, I still don't see how this game or some of the other Kinect games will have any lasting power... I truly believe this is all just a gimmick. Note how the trailer demonstrates the human throwing basic punches and kicks, yet the human screen disappears when its time for the character to do a combo of high-flying moves. I doubt anyone is gonna be attempting a drop kick in their living room.
  • Despite the lame trailer, this looks like it could be good. It has my interest.
  • After seeing this I think a new fight night for kinect or a ufc with kinect controls would be tight!
  • Am I the only one really excited for Kinect!? I mean I can't wait for Air-Guitar Hero, E-Z Bake:Extreme, and of course, My Horse and Me 3. Now come on, who doesn't want to stroke their pony without a controller?
  • Also they could have a serial killer game, cut people up all realistic-like, just like Dexter would!!
  • Hopefully Milo & Kate is like this, i wouldn't mind smacking that Milo kid around to relieve stress
  • Good idea, but holy shit that game looks dumb as hell. The animations are stiff and wonky looking..and that was for a trailer that was supposed to make it look good. Anyone with martial arts experience will break the game, I bet. lol.
  • @37. I stroke my pony all the time. ;) This does look interesting, trailer looked a bit glitchy, but it's probably still in Beta testing, so yeah. I'm getting Kinect, Will probably get this as well.
  • I hate it when they make these kind of games and label them hardcore games. Just because it has a hardcore setting does not make it a hardcore game. It looks the same as any other fighting games on the wii.
  • There should be a "hardcore" mode thrown in for good measure. As in actually acting out the super moves instead of gestures. Anyone notice how the actor suddenly vanished when they show a couple of those moves ;)
  • promising and awesome all at the same time cant wait to beat the crap out of my friends wen it drops
