Having left Codemasters during the development of first-person shooter, Bodycount, Stuart Black - who was also senior designer on Criterion's 2006 OTT shooter, Black - has now joined Sniper: Ghost Warrior developer, City Interactive.

Black will now head up a London-based in-house development studio at City Interactive, where as creative director he'll lead the making of what he's described as ""an exciting new story-driven WWII shooter that will emphasise high adventure in a genre that's become bogged down in reverence and historical accuracy."

City Interactive has two unannounced FPS titles in the pipeline, both of which will be powered by Crytek's proprietary CryEngine 3 set for release over "the next couple of years". This WWII shooter lead by Black is one of them.

Black was creative director on Bodycount before departing Codemasters' Guildford Studio in October. Will he be able to weave his Black magic (snigger) at City Interactive? Watch this space.

  • The game failed din't it?
  • "an exciting new story-driven WWII shooter" Game Devs... theyve covered wars you know..and they dont know how to do anything else.. I live for the day when they stop making WW2 shooters.. there the game thats made when they sit around a table drinking expensive bottled tap water and go .. " OMFG!!! We got to make a game but lack the brains to think up something slightly different... I KNOW!!! A WORLD WAR 2 SHOOTER!!! BUT!!! LETS GIVE IT A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT GENERIC STORY TO THE OTHER 5000 OUT THERE!!!... OMG OMG WIN WIN WIN!!!"..... Rage over..
  • Yay for WW2 shooters... or not
  • Lol, makes a nice change, an Englishman working for the Polish haha Also, WW2 again? Wow.
  • And yet, what we really want from Black is er... another Black. Which we won't get for a variety of reasons. What really blew me away in Black was the sound and detail, he can create any damn world he likes if the sound is so amazing it transcends mere effects and actually draws you into the game environment.
  • #4 LOL. I loved Sniper:ghost warrior, I hope they make a sequal.
  • "Will he be able to weave his Black magic (snigger) at City Interactive?" I see a double black joke in there...
  • I am Polish, but I have to admit Sniper was one of the shittiest games I've tried this year. And that says a lot!! I did not even finish it which only happens once or twicer a year
  • I played Sniper for about 4 hours...set down the controller and walked away in disgust...The game could have been so awesome too
  • sgw should have been better, lets hope they start to make more realistic games! ww2 games are weak sauce
  • Maybe Mr Black would care to hire all these Polish people that live in my town. I insist.
  • Well at least he's not afraid to admit that the WW2 genre has become bogged down.
  • LOL, so wait, he introduced Bodycount, said it was going to be great, then bailed, leaving an unconvincing project to ultimately ... die, and now he wants us to believe that this new game's gonna by awesome just cause he's switched over to the CryEngine 3? Ha! Fat chance Black. Put up or Shut up.
