A new single-player MechWarrior game is in developer at Piranha Games, as revealed by president Russ Bullock.

In an interview with the No Guts No Galaxy podcast (via The Gamer), Bullock said, “There is another MechWarrior in development at Piranha.

“It’s not a successor to MechWarrior Online... Think of it as more in-line with MechWarrior 5, but a standalone game. That's all I’ll say for now. It’ll be announced later, somewhere in 2023.”

The series, which began on PC in 1989, was in an extended hiatus between 2002 and 2013 – from MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries to the dual release of MechWarrior Online and MechWarrior: Tactical Command.

Then it had a second hiatus, from 2013 to 2019, with the release of MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries. Bullock also pointed out that Piranha is still supporting that game: “Everyone knows we have DLC 4 coming out for MechWarrior 5, and there is another MechWarrior game in development at Piranha.”

So there you have it. Will the new game be MechWarrior 6, or something different and intriguing?
