Microsoft has announced that it's delisting more than 40 games from the Xbox 360 Marketplace later this month, beginning as soon as next week. Select entries in the Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, Far Cry, Mass Effect, and Splinter Cell series are among the titles being removed from the store on Xbox 360.

You will, however, still be able to download and play any games you've already purchased following the delisting, simply by visiting the Download History on your Xbox 360 console, and you'll still be able to buy any backwards compatible games from the respective Microsoft Stores on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S.

“These titles will no longer be purchasable on the Xbox 360 Store only, and titles that are available to be purchased on the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S Stores will remain purchasable," a spokesperson for Xbox told Gematsu.

“You will still be able to play discs or previously downloaded games on your Xbox 360 and modern consoles if they are backwards compatible titles. For more information on the games impacted in your region, visit here."

In the US, a total of 46 games are due to be removed from the Xbox 360 Marketplace on 7th February, with 44 to be removed in the UK. Dark Souls, Left 4 Dead, Prince of Persia, Skate 2, The Witcher 2, Blue Dragon, Peggle 2, Jet Set Radio, and Daytona USA are among the other games being nixed.

  • Ok I had to read this just to be certaib if it's backwards compatible can I still buy on Xbox One, answer is yes you can
  • I'm trying to access a number of these on my Series X and I'm getting "Not Available"
  • I didn’t even know 360 had working market still. That seems like it was long overdue…
  • @1, Yeah, the headline is correct in what it states, and reading the article will indicate it, too. However, I feel like it should've been more upfront with it for the reader. Of course, this'd be arguing semantics, but I feel like the headline probably should've read something like, "40 games to get delisted from the Xbox 360 Marketplace only"
  • Does this mean Skate 2 will finally be made available for current gen purchase? Or will it disappear forever? Guess I should buy it through the site, just to be safe...
  • Saw a video recently with a guy testing Wii, PS3, and X360 consoles in 2022. X360 is the only console that's more or less fully functional as far as options to play. The other consoles need a game disc or their bricks.

My guess is Microsoft will flip the big switch on Xbox 360 in 2025 with the excuse that they kept it alive for 20 years so we had out shot with it. Wow though.
  • i spent $150 unnecessarily then. Mostly dlc i was waiting for a sale on. Some of the titles were free for some reason.
  • About time they moved on from the Xbox360.
  • I'm impressed they haven't moved on. There are still people that play Xbox 360 on a fairly regular basis. I wish I could buy a console today with confidence that it will be supported through 2043.
  • @5 I wish they would remaster/remake Skate 1+2. One of the few games I would actually care about for something like that. Especially to get all the achievements again on a fresh list since I %100 them on 360.
  • Couldn’t agree more about Skate 2, probably the best out of the series so far.

I really REALLY can’t wait to get my hands on SKATE aka SKATE 4

Fingers crossed it actually feels like what made that franchise stand out from anything else prior and up to present day.
  • I'm more than a little worried that Skate will NOT be what I'm hoping for. As soon as they announced it I was like "Please don't be some F2P nonsense!" And here we are. I just hope there's a lot to do solo, as well. As much as I love trying to nail a line while people are falling off of buildings right in front of me and doing flippy-doos over a stack of cars to my left, I'd really rather just have fun skating. If that's what it is, I'll play it when I feel like being goofy and then go back to playing Session when I want to actually skate.
  • Its crazy when you think how small the list was originally. Had to part with a lot of great games unfortunately.
